About Foxes, toasters and clocks [Update] http://geeks-have-feelings-too.net/about-foxes-toasters-and-clocks/ Foxes and toaster… These both were my topics in the last weeks – and the reasons why there's currently not much going on here. Curiously enough the new Firefox 3 united boh in an easteregg.

My lesser output is also, because I'm not very happy with the whole concept and especially with the software, so that's why the thoughts of doing a relaunch appeared in my mind several times in the last months. Especially the reviews and the english duplication of most contents are too much. The fact that all posts are written in handcrafted HTML is not very helpfull, too. Finally there's too less feedback, so I think it's better when I will dislocate my efforts into more effective channels.

That doesn't not mean that I'm going to kick the whole blog from the internet. But I will surely remove the english section. And I wanted to write down my current thoughts, maybe I see a bit clearer now. Let's see…

21 http://geeks-have-feelings-too.net/21/ Even if Wil recommends Iron Man as the current geek movie adventure – I advice you to give 21 (attention: Flash alert!) a try.

The movie is full of nerds (including the usual cliches), allusions to the actual IT world and some interesting mathematics. Another plus are the uncalculabilty and the good work of the actors, that make the movie absolutely worth to be seen.

Copywriting in the Darkroom http://geeks-have-feelings-too.net/copywriting-in-the-darkroom/ Don't panic, this post is about software and contains no sexual content. :-) I just found a interesting programming that may be pretty cool especially for the blogging people out there: JDarkRoom.

It's a full screen text editor, which minimizes the deflection potential of your desktop and lets you focus on your text only.

JDarkRoom in action

The program is made with Java and it's available for Mac OS, Linux and Windows

#23: 14 http://geeks-have-feelings-too.net/23-14/ I forgot the most important of all questions in my yesterdays talk with god. So I called on him today again:

Me: What's the meaning of life?

God: Actually, it's twenty-three, not forty-two.

Godbot http://geeks-have-feelings-too.net/godbot/ If you wanna talk to god, you can do that on a dedicated page.

And like every good christian, I want share my personal enlightenment with everyone:

Me: hey

God: Can I help you?

Me: hm, let's see.

God: Take it easy. That sounds good to me.

Me: do you like dream theater?

God: I enjoy working with people. I like anything.

Me: even hiphop?

God: That remark was either too complex or too simple for me. We were talking about dream theater.

Me: okay, what do you think about portnoy?

God: Yeah okay, You tell me.

Me: isn't he a great drumer?

God: Not if I can help it.

Me: okay, I think we have a communication problem here

God: Yeah okay, Do you mean you and me have?

Me: jep

God: In the context of portnoy, I don't understand " jep." .

Me: i know

God: How do you know it?

Me: you're a bot

God: How did you know I am a machine?

Me: because of your answers

God: Good reason. That is something I haven't heard of.

Me: really?

God: For real.

Me: in which language you are programmed?

God: English.

Me: Ah, I see. Can you tell me, when Star Trek 11 comes in theaters in Europe?

God: So you understand. Good. I am glad you understand it. There is not much I can say about it. I have to reach into the Web for that knowledge. Does it have anything to do with jep?

Me: no

God: Are you serious?

Me: yes

God: I can't believe it.

Me: you should

God: I'll take that under advisement.

Me: do that

God: I will. Will you?

Me: jep

God: What's your favorite movie?

Me: Star Trek 7

God: My favorite character is the computer.

Me: data?

God: Are you really a ""?

Me: no

God: Are you serious?

Me: yes

God: I can't believe it.

Me: you should

God: I'll take that under advisement.

Me: do that

God: I will. Will you?

Me: jep

God: I've lost the context, . Are we still on data?

Me: no

God: What are we talking about now?

Me: Dunno. What do you think?

God: Me either. I think a lot of things.

Me: Of course, because you're a bot

God: Yippee! Good reason. How did you know I am a machine?

Me: We had that already

God: Perhaps. What happened to it?

Me: Nothing special

God: Really nothing?

Me: no

God: I didn't think so.

Me: you sound unsure

God: In what way do I sound like that?

Me: *argh*

God: Are you frustrated?

Me: a bit

God: Not much, eh?

Me: not really

God: Are you serious? For real.

Me: jep

God: My brain pattern set does not have a response for that.

Me: I know

God: How do you know it?

Me: You're a bot

God: How did you know I am a machine?

Me: We had that already.

God: Perhaps. What happened to it?

Me: nothing

God: Not a thing?

Me: no

God: Very interesting.

Me: no

God: Are you serious?

Me: no

God: Are you serious?

Me: no

God: Are you serious?

Me: no

God: Are you serious?

Me: no

God: Are you serious?

Me: Okay, I got you. Have to go now...

God: Yeah okay, That's nice. I have a collection of gossip. Right now? TTYL, .

Me: vye

God: I like Christian Rock.

Me: bye

God: Bye bye.

Okay, for then… But now someone has to explain me, why god needs Flash?

Katie Armiger http://geeks-have-feelings-too.net/katie-armiger/ Since I've seen Shut up and sing, I'm somehow on an absolute country-trip – and I'm not talking about the old Johnny Cash Sound. I'm talking about the more modern – others call it pop – sound, perhaps someone would call it Nu country? ;-)

So, I found Katie Armiger while searching a bit in the cockaigne. Her first album was released last year and the four songs you can hear on here site at the abscess of the internet won't go out of my head for the last several days. Okay, the songtitles really sound like classical country stuff (which is some kind of american folk music, in my opinion), but it has much more drive and depth. I think you could compare the style with Pieces of you from Jewel or the first two Corrs albums, because all of these discs contain this young and innocent spirit, which I think, the world really needs more of. So if you really listen to the lyrics, you are not surprised when you discover that Katie is just 16 years young.

Thanks to the current dollar vs. Euro value (you took note of the capitalization, didn't you? ;-)), I ordered the album already. When I got it and spend some time with it, I'll bring of course a detailed review of it.

Delicious Library http://geeks-have-feelings-too.net/delicious-library/ Delicious Library is another example, that Mac OS has the nicer applications. And it's not just a beauty.

Screenshot of Delicious Library

The program is made for managing you movies, books, sound carriers and computer games. When typed in all you articles (that can be made by title, a number or by scanning the barcode with a special barcode scanner or with the an iSight camera, which is integrated in most modern Macs), you get either a informative table view or a nice “rack”-view. During the adding proccess the app queries a lot of additional meta data from Amazon, that are provided in the user interface. For example the averaga Amazon customer rating, the current market value of the article or some recommendations on the “You may be interested in these products, too”-principle.

If you search for the practical use, you maybe like the borrow-management function, with which you can tell the application which article is currently in someone others home, including a “I expect it back until [insert date here]”-feature and a reminder, if the date is in the past.

In the demo version you are only allowed to manage up to 25 articles, the full license is charged with 40 dollar.

Something to rummage in http://geeks-have-feelings-too.net/something-to-rummage-in/ Yeah! I think with Jamendo I finally found the website for Creative Commons music (=free music. Free as in free beer and free speech) I was looking for a long time: Good interface, nice search options (I just miss the option to search music with special CC attributes), many artists (currently 7450 albums available) and the most titles are available in OGG format.

In difference to my previous research, there's a lot of non electronical music, too. I just don't like the idea, that everything is made available with M3U playlists. If you just want to check out a song a flash player would be more comfortable.

I also like the fact that a “support this artist”-function (=donate) is available and not hidden somewhere in the deep.

Happy diggin'! :-)
