ATI Driver-Problem: AIGLX error __driCreateNewScreen
(EE) AIGLX error: dlsym for __driCreateNewScreen_20050727 failed (/usr/lib/dri/fglrx_dri.so: undefined symbol: __driCreateNewScreen_20050727)
(EE) AIGLX: reverting to software rendering
Everyone who found this error message in the x-server log and if you just need hardware acceleration, you can turn off AIGLX by adding the following in your xorg.conf:
Section "ServerFlags" Option "AIGLX" "off" EndSection
That worked for me and now I can finally really pack my computer.

helped helped!

Didn't work for me, same error

Worked for me. BTW, I added the "ServerFlags" section right above the "ServerLayout" section. Does it matter where we add this section?

Thanks,
helped a lot I had this problem on my late 2006 17" iMac.
Now what to do if I actually want AIGLX? -
@Jakub: You're running Linux on an iMac?
AIGLX doesn't work in the current ATI drivers. But yesterday AMD made a press release, in which they said, that the new upcoming driver will include AIGLX support and a huge performance boost. I hope that will be true.

Just realized using the ATI driver 8.40.4 that the atiogl_a_dri.so does not contain a symbol alias for _driCreateNewScreen. I suspect this routine has been replaced by _driCreateScreen which is sensible, but for backwards compatibility it would have been nice if an alias to _driCreateNewScreen had been included in the ATI driver library.
On some systems if you have no software substitute for dri - you will get the above error...
