Review: Lisa Chappell - When then is now

Lisa Chappell is mostly known as actress. Her most popular role here in Germany was the Claire McLeod of the series “McLeod's Daughters”. On her first music album you can make sure, that the nice lady from New Zealand is not just a good singer, but also has a real talent in songwriting, too .

The songs on “When then is now” have all a certain lightness. They are not very produced and sometimes there's a lack of plenty. The voice of “Miss Chappell” is definitely a good one, but she hasn't the quality, that is needed to fill these small gaps, that are inherent in the songs.
The single songs are not filled up with different ideas and parts, so they are not very long. So the diversification comes “between the tracks” and not in the songs.

Overall in my eyes the album is with 10 tracks and a overall playing time of about 36 minutes to short to be a full price long player. In addition the quality of the songs is too fluctuating, so I can't give a good weighting. Clear recommendations are: “Mother Son”, “Dancing Hands” and “Desire”. Songs of this quality should be included on the next album.

Without fail, I advise everyone who is interested in easy Country-/Folk-/Pop-Music to visit the website of Lisa Chappell (Attention, Flash Alert!), one which you can prelisten to every song on the album. If you like these previews, don't make the same mistake as I did and expect something more from the full album. Because, when you know the short examples, you know the songs by 90%.

Conclusion

As first work “When then is now” is absolutely a promising album, but for long term listening purposes I can't recommend it. That's why the final rating is just at weak 2.5 of 5 points.

    Ciao

Höre "mehr so undurchproduzierte Musik" - stimmt. "Alles subjektiv" stimmt auch (Smiley: smile)
